How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 24 marathons and 1 Ultra

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Mercer Island Half Marathon - 1978

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?  Lake Sammamish Marathon, June 1978.  I had a good day and I did have fun.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?  I started running in 1977 as a way to develop and maintain fitness.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?  I loved the challenge and the qualifying aspects was really appealing to me.

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?  So many to choose from, Royal Victoria has been on my list for 10 tens, but am schedule to run it in 2008.  The Comrades would be totally cool. 

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? 

What was you most memorable marathon and why?  Governors Cup in Helena, MT when I qualified for Boston by 1 second.  The finish was pretty intense.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?  California International in Sacramento.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?  1,000 miles, this summer to the high desert of Utah.

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?  They all think I am nuts, and since I am also a streak runner (484 consecutive days of running as of 9/30/08) they feel the need to remind me often and tell me that my knees are going to give out.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?  24.

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal?  Boston.  1993 and it still hangs on my mantel.

Where do you keep your finisher medals?  Yes.

 Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?  Some I wear and some I donate to a good cause.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?  I have done this, right here on San Juan Island, Washington.

Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black?  Black, like the way I like my coffee.

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal?  Pre – toast, banana.  Post anything that goes with beer.

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice?  GU, espresso.  Drink:  Water.

Which race would you never run again and why?  Lake Chelan Shore to Shore.  Poorly organized and too much traffic.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?  Not sure.

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? I normally average between 50 and 70 miles a week with running every day.  One long run, one speed run, one hill run and the rest regular running at an easy pace.

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it?  Jane H., Paul H, Stan R, Brian G, Laura T and Randy G.

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe?  I love Brooks and run in the Glycerin 6.  Race in them as well.  Go Brooks!!

What are your short-term running goals?  Qualify for Boston at Royal Victoria Marathon on 10/12/08.

What are your long-term running goals?  To Ride this Adventure as long as I can.

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?  I used to boat, but am currently boat less.  Reading and writing for pleasure and some money.

Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head)  With the first name of Clark I have always identified with Superman.  Though the Dude from The Big Lebowski has really taught me much about running.
