(Any distance) 400 meters What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? My first marathon was in Las Vegas, NV in 2007. I had so much fun that I wished I had started running marathons sooner. I was hooked after that day. How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? I’ve been running since I was a child. Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? I wanted to be a part of a group that enjoyed running as much as I do and of course didn’t think I was nuts. Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? Mmm there are so many, but the Great Wall sounds interesting and Safaricom Marathon!! If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? Living -My best friend, David. David has always believed in me even when I didn’t. Deceased – My mom. I wouldn’t even have to talk. I would just want to be near her one last time. What was you most memorable marathon and why? Lake Tahoe, because I ran 2 marathons in 2 days and became a Maniac!!!! The marathons were challenging, but one of the best experiences of my life. If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Las Vegas. Good weather, nice easy flat course, and you have plenty of places to check out while you are in town. What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? Lake Tahoe and San Francisco Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? Yes. Some say I will get hurt or that I am just crazy. Non-running friends just don’t get it. If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? 24 From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? I really like the San Diego medal, but Lake Tahoe means the most. Where do you keep your finisher medals? I display my medals in a shadow box. Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? If I don’t wear them, then I frame the shirt with the medal and bib. If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? Mmm I will have to get back to you on that one. Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black? Yellow What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Pre race – bagel and banana & Post race– any kind of pasta with lots of veggies. What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? Power gel and Accelerade Which race would you never run again and why? None. Each race taught me something about myself or what I needed to change in training. What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Doing 2 marathons in 2 days in Lake Tahoe was very challenging. It tested me physically and especially mentally. My right foot had started to hurt me a few days before the race, so I had that on my mind. I also train at an elevation of 2500 and Lake Tahoe is at 6400-6900, so I was a little concerned. I knew I would finish the marathons, but would I have fun doing it. My foot held up, I dealt with the elevation, and I had a blast!!!! Lake Tahoe makes you ask yourself – Do I really love to run? What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? The most mileage for me so far is 35 miles a week, but I don’t do that every week. I also bike, yoga, weights, and walk. I train according to how I feel and I mix up my training all of the time ( like to try out diff workouts). My schedule now is to run 4 days that’s including my long run and then cross train the rest of the week. Do you have a training partner? I do the majority of my training by myself, but I do have a friend who runs with me from time to time. What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Train and race in asics gel – nimbus. What are your short-term running goals? To run a 50 mile Ultra. What are your long-term running goals? To be able to run for the rest of my life with a smile on my face and just loving every minute. Now that would be a gift. Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? I love to read and spend time with my family. Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head) That’s a tough one. Main Maniac and Superman!!!! |
