How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 11

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) St. Agnes Labor Day 5K Bay Cafe, Baltimore, MD on Monday, September 3, 2001.  I did not run to warm up because I had to save it all for the course.

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? Under Armour Baltimore Marathon in October of 2006.  I loved miles 1-14.  I had issues with miles 15-18.  I cursed miles 19-22.  I knew I’d finish at mile 23.  I walked a lot during miles 24-25.  I experienced euphoria at mile 26.  I knew I’d run again and I have never looked back.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? Started running in earnest in 2005 in preparation for the marathon in 2006.  I ran to lose weight.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? I like to thin k I am a maniac until I look around and see true maniacs.  Then I decided I want to be like that.

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? Hands down the Great Wall Marathon

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My sister Macie, she had a wreck over a year ago and still is struggling to get back to running (she’ll pound out the miles on a bike though)

What was you most memorable marathon and why? Marine Corps in 2007.  In my heart I ran it for Macie since she had just had the wreck and couldn’t walk.  I balled like a baby at the end.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Myrtle Beach—flat and great temperature.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? 8-hour drive.

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? Yes.  I mostly get stares and the question, “Why?”

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? 50

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? Tupelo, 2008.  I’m getting a dang tattoo of it.

Where do you keep your finisher medals? Some hang in the office, some are in a drawer, and three actually got framed (but are just sitting around)

Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? Yes, but only after I finish the race (never during the race).  The ones I don’t wear just sit in a drawer.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? I love running my town and I am glad we host the Spinx Run Fest in Greenville, SC.  I am also glad it is downtown, but I would change the two-loop set up.

Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black? Yellow

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Pasta before, steak after

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? Clif Shots and G2

Which race would you never run again and why? Tupelo.  99% humidity at 5 am, temperatures approaching 100 degrees—stupid, but what a medal—you should do it!

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?  Tupelo—stupid I tell you, but you have to do it!

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? 6 miles twice a week.  3 miles once a week.  Long run on Saturday—8-20 miles.  Cross train twice a week.

What are your long-term running goals? 50 states by the time I am 50.

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? Read and travel—although I usually tie this to a marathon.

Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head), non Maniac Beauty? Superman—there is really no other super hero
