(Any distance) United Airlines 30 mile relay while I was a flight attendant. What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? I started running during the boom in the 70’s and then took a break for about fifteen years…started back up about seven years ago and got very serious about it. Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? I belong to a running group and one of the members was telling me about Maniacs. It intrigued me and I knew I would qualify. It’s fun seeing other members at certain races. Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? That’s easy…Western States 100 mile endurance race. It’s my “Boston”, and I just qualified for it last December. I will be in the lottery this October…yippee! If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My Dad…he was still running with me at age 89 and he holds the age group course record for the Palm Springs Arial Tram run that we did together every year What was you most memorable marathon and why? The Honolulu Marathon in 06. We ran it in a monsoon. Rain was running off my cap. Any race in Hawaii is good! If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? The Orange County Marathon…beautiful course and either flat or downhill. Very nice. What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? To Pennsylvania Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? They are all pretty used to it by now, but they still think my ultra running is just crazy. If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? Probably ten or more From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? Honolulu Where do you keep your finisher medals? I have a corner in our livingroom where I display them Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? I wear some. The others are cut up for a runners quilt that I am making. If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? In Riverside Ca. Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black? Yellow What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Pasta for pre-race…almost anything after, especially something salty. What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? Unflavored, plain Gu and Gatorade, watered down Which race would you never run again and why? God’s Country in Pennsylvania….very hilly and hot temps. What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? The God’s Country in Pennsylvania. Extremely got conditions and high humidity, plus a really hard and hilly course. What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? I lift weights and do situps and pushups. I typically run about 30 miles per week rt higher if I am training for something big. Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? I mostly run alone and with a group for the Sunday long run What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? I can wear almost anything neutral…the lighter the better. What are your short-term running goals? Train train train. I just love being out there every day What are your long-term running goals? Western States 100 miler Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? Hiking, fishing, spending family time. Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head), non Maniac Beauty? No hero’s…I am inspired by anyone who betters their physical condition. |
