How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 26

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Buffalo, NY Turkey Trot

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? New York City Marathon in 2002.  I liked the first 13 miles and hated the last 13.2

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? I started running in the mid-80’s when I got Saucony running shoes to fit my orthotics, which I got just to help with daily walking.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? I first met a Maniac at the 24-Race around the Lake and I realized there was a group of people like me.

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? Any race I have not run.

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? uhmmmmm

What was you most memorable marathon and why? The Otter Creek Trail marathon in 2006, it was on my birthday, my 10th marathon and it poured rain to the point were I ran through a puddle that was knee high, and I had the best time just running.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Shamrock in Virginia Beach because that is were I had mine.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? MA to FL

Do any of your non-running friends or family members think that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? Yes they do.  My brother asked if it was time for me to find a new sport after I did 12 marathons in 12 months and kept going.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?  I have found one marathon a month is a nice number, where I can still clock a good time.

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? The NipMuck Trail marathon was a 6” log.  A little hard to wear around your neck, but unique.

Where do you keep your finisher medals? I have given some away to friends and family who’s are battling things much harder than 26.2 miles and have made me feel lucky to be able to run.

 Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? I wear most of them a donate the ugly ones.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? The Berkshires because there are the best roads to run.

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Oatmeal, and post race a burger and beer.

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? Clif bars and red Gatorade

Which race would you never run again and why? The NipMuck Trail marathon, I feel lucky to have completed it in one piece and don’t feel the need to test my luck.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Doing the Monster Trail Marathon in NY one week after the Quebec Marathon, it was a test of marathons on consecutive weekends and a challenging trail marathon, where I thought of dropping out but finished anyway.

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? Tuesday sprints, Thursday 6 mile tempo, Saturday long run. So maybe 25 miles a week. I follow the FIRST training plan.

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? Just NPR on the radio.

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Asics Kayanos for everything.

What are your short-term running goals? To run the next race and see what happens after that.

What are your long-term running goals? To keep running, but maybe not at the Maniac level

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? I bike 3 days a week and play hockey in the winter, they are as important as running.

Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head), non Maniac Beauty? Just the cat on the head.
