How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 7/0

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Nashville Predators Fangtastic 5k in 2006.

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?
The first marathon I ran was the Country Music Marathon in 2007. It was an awesome experience. Not only to I achieve something that I never thought I would, but I also ran it with my best friend, April. It was something I’ll never forget and it was the real start of my running addiction.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? I’ve been running seriously since the beginning of 2006. I started running to get into shape and my mom was a runner when I was a kid and would compete in 10ks, etc and so running always had this sentimental mystique to it.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? My friend Craig is the reason I’m a maniac. It was his idea to run back to back marathons and it wasn’t until the week of the races that we realized that the feat would qualify us for maniac status!

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? I would love to be in the properly trained condition to finish the Leadville 100 one day.

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? I’ve already ran marathons with best friends, but, I would love to run a marathon with my mom one day. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to convince her to train for one. Maybe this will help!

What was you most memorable marathon and why? My most memorable was definitely the Madison Marathon in Ennis, MT in August of 2009. It’s billed as the highest road marathon in the country. It wasn’t just the physical challenges, but the mental/emotional challenges that I remember from that day. It was also the smallest marathon I’ve ever ran…with only 6 finishers. It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Well, most of the marathons I’ve ran have been fairly hilly. But, the St. Jude’s Memphis Marathon should be good PR race. It’s in December and is fairly flat and not too crowded. I didn’t PR, but never mind that.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? 2000 miles. From Nashville, TN to Choteau, MT

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? They do, but they always expect crazy things from me.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? As many as I logistically and physically could. 1 a week, I guess?

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? The St. Louis Marathon 2009 had a fancy, cool medal. But I think I enjoy the simplicity and the weight of the Chickamauga Battlefield medal from 2008 the best.

Where do you keep your finisher medals? Hanging on some bookshelves in my hallway at home.

Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? I wear the cool ones (so, that equates to about 1 out of every 10). The rest I give to charity.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? I’d love to put one on in some small town in Ireland.

Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black?
Yellow.

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Pre-race: pizza the night before. Post race: Cheeseburger, Onion Rings and a Milkshake.

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? I don’t use gels. I use shot blox. Gatorade.

Which race would you never run again and why? Never say never.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?
Hands down: Madison Marathon in Ennis, MT. Crazy elevation. Crazy hills. Crazy lonely.

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training?
I run 6 days a week. Anywhere from 40-60 miles typically.

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? I have some virtual training partners. My friends April (lives in Memphis) and Craig (lives in Montana). I also have a couple of local training partners for weekly runs and some longer runs. But, we’re not usually all training for the same races.

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Train and Race in ASICS Gel Nimbus
