How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run?
7 so far….
What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance)
Fowl Fun Run when I was a kid. I just remember that I got a pumpkin pie at the end to take home.
What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?
Seattle in 2005. It was fun from mile 1 through 19. after that, no so much.
How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?
Been running all my life. I just like the mental challenge that goes along with it as well as keeping in shape.
Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?
Most of my family and friends don’t understand why I like to run marathons. Had to find someone that understood!
Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?
Have several but I think Big Sur is at the top of the list.
If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why?
My lovely wife of course.
What was you most memorable marathon and why?
Really liked Victoria. Nice course with lots of people cheering. Not too crowded while running either.
If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?
I would say Yakima River Canyon. Not too many hills and they aren’t in bad places with the last three miles downhill.
What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?
Portland. Not enough time or money for anywhere further.
Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?
Yes they do. The best comment was my 8-year old calling me Mr. Crazy Pants as I was dropped off 16 miles away from our house to do a long run.
If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?
Probably 6. Every other month or so.

Where do you keep your finisher medals?
In my top drawer with all my running shorts
Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?
I do sometimes. The problem is most don’t fit me lengthwise otherwise I would wear them more.
If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?
Black Diamond.
Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black?
Black. It’s what I wear on a regular basis most days.
What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal?
Pre-race: Bagel, orange juice, oatmeal, banana, water, sports drink, and COFFEE!
Post-race: bacon cheeseburger with any Hale’s Ale or Red Hook.
What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice?

Which race would you never run again and why?
Portland. Nothing really wrong with it but I just didn’t have a good time there.
What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?
Back to back weekends with Green River and Lake Youngs. Started seeing spots during the last four miles at LYU.
What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training?
Alternate 2 weeks hard, 1 week easy. Hard weeks are 49 to 55 miles. Easy weeks are 43-47 miles. My kids, dog, house, etc are my cross training.
Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it?
Me myself and I. Schedule doesn’t really allow me to run with others much.
What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe?
New Balances or Brooks. They generally fit my big feet better.
What are your short-term running goals?
Do well at Boston
What are your long-term running goals?
Keep running as long as I can. I want to stay in shape for my life.
Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?
Wife, kids, dogs, etc.
Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head), non Maniac Beauty?
