How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run?  As of 19 Dec 15 Marathons and 1 Ultra

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance):  The best I could do in finding a race number was for a 10K in Sep 1986.  I sure can’t remember that far back.

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?
San Diego Marathon before it became Rock N Roll.  1988, yes I had fun.  I felt great and finished strong.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?  26 years after I came into the Navy.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?  Jeff Matlock # 1268 told me about it and has inspired to keep running more.

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?  Western States 100.

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why?  Lance Armstrong, I don’t think I could ride with him maybe I could run with him.

What was your most memorable marathon and why?  Running the 2007 Boston Marathon.  It was my first Boston and the weather was really bad and there were still great crowds.  I will go back again and hope for better weather.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?  Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?  Las Vegas-Dec 2009.

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?  Yes, why are you doing running all those miles, don’t you know that is not good for your knees.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?  26 to 40, you have to rest sometime.

From what race did you receive your favorite finisher’s medal?  My first Marine Corps Marathon  in 2006, before they changed it.

Where do you keep your finisher medals?  In my office on a side of my desk.  It is getting full.

 Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?  Yes I do wear them, I like the new tech shirts.  My Grandmother has made me two quilts with some of my shirts.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?  Haven’t thought too much about that, but it would have to be a time when the temperature would be in the 50’s, I don’t like it hot anymore.

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal?  Pre race-pasta.  Post race-a good hamburger.

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice?  Power Bar to both.

Which race would you never run again and why?  So far they have all been good, but I’m sure I will find one, most likely it will have hills.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Nashville Rock N Roll in 2009, it was very HOT and it kicked my butt.

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training?  Working out 5 to 6 days, running around 45 miles and yes I do like spinning for cross training.

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it?  Yes, Ed Eck and the Tidewater Striders for weekend runs.

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe?  I like Reebok but they are getting harder to find.  I now use Saucony and I like the Newton’s to race in, they are fast.

What are your short-term running goals?  To run a marathon a month all in a different state in 2010.

What are your long-term running goals?  To complete a marathon in all 50 states.

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?  Work and spend time with my family.

Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head), non Maniac Beauty?    Superman and local running Tommy Neeson for the inspirations he has provided to others.
