How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 31 (as of 7/9/08)

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Razorback Run, a15K, nearly killed me.

What was the first marathon you ever ran? Lost Dutchman.  What year did you run it? 2003.  Did you have fun that day?  Disappointed in my time, but loved the race.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?  I’ve been a “runner” since about 2001.  I ran before that, but to support other sports.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?  I happened to run two in three weeks and thought, why not?

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?  Antarctica, which I have run; but, I’d run it again.

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why?  Dara Torres – 41 year old female swimmer making the Olympics – how cool is that?

What was you most memorable marathon and why?  Antarctica for obvious reasons too numerous to list.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?  Grandma’s for the low elevation and gentle, rolling terrain.  Or, Tucson or CIM for their gentle, sustained downhills.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?  Either Antarctica or Easter Island.

Do any of your non-running friends or family members think that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? Yes.  What are some of their comments to you?  You’re going to hurt yourself.  Actually, they tend to be pretty impressed by the number of marathons I do each year.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?  Probably about as many as I do – 10-12.

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal?  Mercedes

Where do you keep your finisher medals?  Hanging from the side of my dresser.  Putting the next one up is one of my favorite traditions.

 Do you wear your race t-shirts? Yes.  What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?  Either leave them in my closet or use them as throwaways.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?  Ice Fields Parkway in Alberta, finish in downtown Banff.

What is your favorite pre race meal? Pizza the night before.  Oatmeal the morning of.  Post race meal?  Vegetarian Eggs Benedict w/ hash browns.

What is your energy gel of choice? Hammer Gel.  Sport drink of choice?  Powerade blue.

Which race would you never run again and why?  Any marathon in hot, humid Florida.  I’d rather play golf that day.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?  Each and every race where the temps have been in the 80s or higher.

What is a typical training week like for you?  Usually five or six days of running w/ mid-length mid-week run and a long run on the weekend.  How many miles do you run? 50-70 per week.  Any cross training?  This seems to go in cycles – sometimes swimming, sometimes cycling, sometimes core strength.

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it?  Yes, my domestic partner.

What kind of shoes do you train in? Asics Gel Cumulus and Kayano.  Do you race in a different shoe?  Only once – never again.

What are your short-term running goals?  Qualify for Boston.

What are your long-term running goals?  50 States and 7 Continents

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?  Golf, play piano.

Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head)  Lance Armstrong – he’s not actually a real person, is he?
