Name

Martha Corazzini

Maniac #578

State you live in

Nevada

How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run?

111 marathons

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance)

5k Reservoir Run, Central Park, NYC 1992

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?

NYC 1993

I had fun-however I was injured a few weeks before-iliotibial band.  I was afraid it would flare up and I wouldn’t be able to run.  As a precaution I took $50 with me on the course, just in case I needed to take a cab from Brooklyn!

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?

I began running in 1992. My ex-husband got me interested when he started running.  I started running races and he quit.  Basically, I just wanted to lose weight and stay in shape.

I went on to join the NY Roadrunners, started speed work classes and trained for the marathon.  Everyone in NYC is “marathon crazy”, so easy to get caught up in the excitement.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?

My friends, Jeff and Matt were planning to join by running 2 doubles in 2 weekends, which would qualify them for joining at the Ruthenium level.  I realized that I had already qualified for Osmium Level the previous year by running 16 states, so not to be outdone by those two, I had to join.

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?

Antarctica, would be awesome!  I’d love to go on an adventure!!

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why?

Probably my friends from my running group in NY.   They’re the best.  The group has been together since I started running.  They’re all very reliable and everyone has known everyone else forever so there is always plenty to talk about and no one ever complains about the heat/cold/rain/snow, as weather is not a factor!

What was you most memorable marathon and why?

Although, I have good memories of all of my marathons; I’d have to stay St. George, 2001.  That’s when I qualified for Boston.  Most people ask about that.

************************************************************************

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?

Definitely the St. George Marathon-most runners will finish about 20 minutes faster than their “regular” time.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?

Rio de Janeiro, 2006

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?

They all think I’m crazy, of course. Although not being runners themselves and knowing about most of my 50 State friends, I don’t think they realize HOW crazy I am.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?

About 12.  One a month, same as what I do now.

************************************************************************

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal?

Mercedes Marathon!  I’d like to hang it in my car, but I’m afraid it will get ripped off!

Where do you keep your finisher medals?

The current year’s medals are in my bedroom in a basket on my bureau.  The rest are on hangers (divided by year) in the closet waiting to be displayed (eventually!)

Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?

I do wear some of the tech shirts-never seems that I get the right size in those.

The others are in the closet, waiting to be organized, same as the medals.

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?

I can’t think of anywhere there isn’t a marathon!

Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black?

Yellow

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal?

Pre-race: Pasta and salad.

Post race: Iced Coffee from Starbucks and a Veggie Burger with French Fries or CPK pizza.

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice?

Power Gel and Gatorade

Which race would you never run again and why?

None, I think I’ve research and chosen all really great races.  There’s nothing I wouldn’t run again.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?

San Juan Island-very hilly! And Honolulu back in 1998-I was sick and walked about ½ of the course.-6 hours plus!  I have a no dropping out policy, so quitting wasn’t an option.

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training?

Race on Saturday; Long Run on Sunday; 3-6 miles on Tue, Wed and Thur. –about 30 miles or so for the week.

Off on Mondays and Fridays.

Cross training-weights and elliptical machine.

************************************************************************

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it?

Usually, my friend Steffen trains with me on the weekends; although lately he’s been injured AND he’s moved across town.   During the week, I just run by myself.

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe?

Asics-training and racing

What are your short-term running goals?

Recover from my knee injury, train more and get faster.

What are your long-term running goals?

I finished the states on Jan. 1, 2007,  so my next goal would have to be finishing all of the continents.  So far I have 3.

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?

Travel to marathons
