What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Half mile in high school back in 1972.
What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? Marine Corps Marathon in 1989. Loved it. We lived in Annapolis at the time and my husband (active duty Marine Corps) had run the MCM in 1988. He encouraged me to train and run with him in 1989. As a former Marine myself, I had the best time running and talking to all the Marines on the course and at the finish. It was awesome.
How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? Off and on since I ran track in high school. Back at it seriously since 2003.
Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? Talking to maniacs at the races I’ve run the past couple years. There always seems to be a few running and they seem to have so much fun together. I like fun!
Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? I’d just once love to qualify and run Boston. Probably will never happen but a girl can dream.
If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My sons. They are both serving their country in the military and I would be proud to run with them.
What was you most memorable marathon and why? MCM 1989. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease shortly after this race and had to just live the race in my mind for so many years until I was well enough to start marathoning again.
If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? None of the ones I’ve run. J
What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? Washington DC from our home in NC….about 8 hours.
Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? Of course. My favorite comment is always….”Did you win?”
If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? At least one a month, more if my body could take it.
From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon.
Where do you keep your finisher medals? Hanging off a mirror in our guest bedroom.
Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? Just the technical ones. The rest I’m saving to make into a quilt.
If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? Where I live in the mountains of NC. It’s beautiful here.

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Pre….Baked ziti. Post…..Steak.
What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? All flavors of sports beans. Gatorade
Which race would you never run again and why? Grandfather Mountain. It’s a great race but once is enough for this one.
What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? My 3 in 5 weeks that earned me Maniac status. Just a lot of racing for me in a short time.
What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? I usually run 5 days a week and average about 35-40 miles. No cross training.
Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? No
What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Train and race in Asics Gel Kayano
What are your short-term running goals? Increase the number of marathons I run each year. Would also love to start adding some ultras to my schedule.
What are your long-term running goals? Would love to conquer the 50 states.
Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? I read quite a bit (I’m a librarian), quilt, work with our Labrador retrievers, watch my girls play soccer and volleyball, and do genealogical research into our family history.
Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head) Main maniac. I don’t think Superman or Wonder Woman comes close to what he does!
