How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run?

Four marathons

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance)

In 7th grade I ran the 880

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?

My first marathon was the Steamtown Marathon in October 2006. It was a beautiful day and a very good run, though a bit painful at times. I really enjoyed the camaraderie at the race and the crowd support was unbelievable.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?

I have been running since 7th grade. I started because the neighborhood bullies weren’t very good at hitting a moving target.

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?

Misery loves company and so do crazy folk.

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?

Take me to Hawaii any day.

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why?

Definitely I would do an ultra with Karl Marx, for the all the oppressed proles.

What was you most memorable marathon and why?

So far, the Marine Corps Marathon is the most memorable because I ran with my wife, sister, sister-in-law and niece. We had a great time.

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?

Harrisburg, it is flat.

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?

150 miles

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?

Most of my friends know that I am mental, so as long as they don’t find me eating trash from a garbage can they pay little attention. My wife runs marathons too, so I have lots of support.

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?

Once a month would be great.

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal?

Hmm. None of them are that memorable, but the Steamtown medal seems most dignified.

Where do you keep your finisher medals?

Just laying on a shelf

Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?

Yes, I like to wear my t-shirts for workouts or lounging around.

Belize?

Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black?

Yellow to the core

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal?

I don’t eat much before a race—too afraid it might come back out the other end during a race.

After a race, I like a salad bar.

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice?

GU and Gatorade

Which race would you never run again and why?
