How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 5 marathons
What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) My first race was in Jakarta, Indonesia in the 4th grade. I can not remember the distance, but I remember placing 3rd and getting a medal- I was so excited.
What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? My first marathon was the Adidas Dublin Marathon in Dublin, Ireland in 2005. One of my lifetime goals was to run a marathon with my mother and this was that race. We had trained together with our running group, Tulsa Runners World.
How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?
I have been a runner since I can remember. My parents are long-distances, I have memories of my brother, sister and I going to the Tulsa Run and sneaking a couple of candy bars into our pockets that were intended for the runners.
Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? I decided to become a Maniac because some of our running friends our Maniacs, like Marvin Winters. I thought it was a great challenge and I wanted to tackle it.
Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?
I have heard there is one at the Great Wall of China, I think that would be amazing.
If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? I would like to run with my husband, but I don’t think that he is very into it. He prefers to be my support crew rather than running.
What was you most memorable marathon and why? They are all memorable. Some good memories, sad, and scary- like Chicago of 2007.
If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? I’ll have to think about it.
What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?
Dublin, Ireland.
Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?
Oh yes, lots of people think I am crazy. My family not so much, because they are used to it. My most favorite comment is from Pop (my husbands grandfather) After the Chicago marathon he told Shane “That is some dangerous S*&#, they are doing!”
If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? 15 marathons
From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal?
Adidas Dublin Marathon, my first marathon.
Where do you keep your finisher medals?
Some in frames and some in boxes, I am wanting to display them…somehow… I don’t know.
Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?
Yes, I wear my race t-shirts, I have a hard time parting with them. I still have my high-school Regional track shirts too.
If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?
Bali, Indonesia and we would run through the Ancient Hindu Monkey Temple.
Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black?
Yellow- even though I don’t look good in yellow.
What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? A bowl of oatmeal for pre race meal and anything with red meat for post-race.
What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? Powerade Tangerine with the 2 X’s the caffeine and extra sodium. Drink of choice is water, water, water.
Which race would you never run again and why? That might be Chicago, sad to say. We saw things you shouldn’t see on the race course, it was very sad and unfortunate what happened.
What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Adidas Dublin Marathon my first. Extremely hilly and it rained for the first 13 miles.
What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? 3- 4 days during the week at 5-7 miles. Saturday is my training run, it just depends what is in on the schedule.
Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? My mother used to be my training partner until I moved to Texas, right now I run by myself, but still consider myself apart of the Tulsa Runner’s World group.
What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Asics, no I don’t race in a different shoe.
What are your short-term running goals? To become faster and to get my husband to start training for a half marathon.
What are your long-term running goals? Qualify for Boston.
Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? Train for triathlons.
Who is your favorite Super Hero? Superman, Wonder Woman, Main Maniac (with cat on head)
