Yep, had a great time. My running partner talked me into it then got injured. She and my support crew drove from place to place along the course, drank beer and cheered me on. I BQ’d that day and didn’t even know what it meant. How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? The Army made me run and I hated it. I retired in 2005 and took up running (alone) and loved it. Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? Got the bug after the first one and started training for Boston. Trained with a group that included Maniac #9 and figured I could meet the challenge. Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? Australia’s Gold Coast Marathon – anyone want to go? If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? Jim Morrison of the Doors – would just like to figure out what was going on in that brain of his, figure four hours of running might give me a clue. What was you most memorable marathon and why? Eugene, OR. Running on Pre’s trail and along a beautiful course. If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Newport’s infamous 25.7 marathon course. What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? Boston, then Alaska. Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? You bet, they just shake their head because they knew I hated running before. If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? 12. But not sure my knees will keep up. Will shoot for 4-6 per year. From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? None of them are that cool, but Boston holds the glory. Got the plaque. Where do you keep your finisher medals? In a drawer in my bedroom. Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? I wear them to run in. If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? In a little stadt called Weinheim Germany – they have a park called the “Exotenwald” (Exotic Forest) and it is just beautiful. Lots of hills. Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black? Yellow. What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Bread and Dark Beer. Bread and Dark Beer. What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? GU and Dark Beer Which race would you never run again and why? Portland Marathon. My home city is the most beautiful place I have lived yet they manage to run you through the crappiest parts of town. Forget it. I have opted to run the last five miles with friends from here on out. What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Boston was a challenge for me but it was primarily the amount of people. The smaller the better! What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? 25-30 on average, figure I am always ready to run 26. Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? - Tina, my marathon mentor and 31 race maniac (she didn’t know about them either and we signed up together.) What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Asics 2130s. What are your short-term running goals? Run CIM, Melbourne Beaches, Ave of the Giants, Seattle R&R. What are your long-term running goals? Run Greece 2009 and many more. Maybe try a mini tri. Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? Drink Dark Beer, hike, travel, save the animals. Who is your favorite Beatle and what is your favorite Beatle song? I dislike the Beatles. All the great music in the 60s and 70s and America goes gaga for the Beatles?
