State you live in Tulsa Oklahoma
How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run?
· I have run eight marathons and seven ultras
What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance)
· A 5K called the Holiday Classic in Claremore OK. My metric conversions at the time were not so good. I trained for three months and up until a week before the race I thought that a 5K was over 5 miles not less than five miles.
What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day?
· My first was the 2005 Oklahoma Memorial Marathon which I ran with my running coach, Kathy Sager. She kept me going nice and slow till mile twenty, then she let me sprint to the end. I would up running a 4:39:02. It turns out it was one of my slowest marathon’s yet the one I had the most fun running. I appreciated my coach’s advice that I married her a year and a half later!!!!!!
How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?
· I started running in September of 2004 because one day I get dressed and could not find my belt. After searching for 30 minutes, I realized that I already had it on and that it was buried between my tummy fat rolls.
Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you?
· Simple peer pressure from Maniacs Marvin Winters and Johnny Spriggs.
Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run?
· The Western States 100
If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why?
· I would want to run Gordon Ainsley, the founder of the first 100 miler, the Western States 100. I would like to hear firsthand the story of him and his horse.

What was you most memorable marathon and why?
· Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa because there were so many other TATURs (Tulsa Area Trail & Ultra Runners) participating. They are great people and good friends.
If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest?
· The Oklahoma Marathon along Riverside Drive in Tulsa. As pancake flat as you can get. No traffic or turns besides the turnarounds.
What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race?
· Chicago Illinois.
Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you?
· Sure. They tell me that you should not have to run unless you get in trouble at school or in the military.
If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?
· I would like to do one every other weekend.
From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal?
· The Prickly Pear 50K A cool glass “medal”
Where do you keep your finisher medals?
· In a glass curio cabinet.
Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear?.
· I am the founder and president of a trail running club in Tulsa called TATUR which stands for Tulsa Area Trail & Ultra Runners. So I usually wear those shirts while I am running and wear the race shirts to work etc.
If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?
· On Turkey Mountain in Tulsa

· Yellow. I hate being hot and black roasts me.
What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal?
· Pre Race breakfast at McDonaldsand post race is a fat Ribeye at a good steakhouse.
What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice?
· Gu and Hydr8
Which race would you never run again and why?
· I have yet to run in a race where I did not think I got my $$ worth.
What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why?
· The Rocky Raccoon 100 Miler. I was not ready for the mental aspect and the sleepiness.
What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training?
· I run 3-6 miles on Tuesdays and Thursdays and try to get in about a 10 mile trail run on Saturdays.
Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it?
· My wife and 4-5 great TATUR members.
What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe?
· Road Asiics GT-2120s and Montrail Hardrocks for rugged trail runs.
What are your short-term running goals?
· Finish a 100 miler
What are your long-term running goals?
· Finish the Hardrock 100 miler
Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?
· Organize TATUR races and events and manage the TATUR website (shameless plug…www.tatur.org)
