How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run? 14

 

What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Ortega River Run in Jacksonville Florida

 

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? Disney marathon in 2002. Yes and no. I took lots of photos with the characters but then rain and lightning around mile 17 or 18, and hit the wall at mile 20. My official race time on my finisher photo is 4:95:07 because the clocks were broken due to the thunder storm.

 

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? I wanted to do the Gate

River Run when I turned forty and am still running at 46.

 

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? My boyfriend happened to mention it to me when I decided to sign up for Whidbey Island this year. I didn’t know I would be fulfilling the criteria and had never heard of the membership.  Or what inspired you? I’m trying to finish all fifty states.

 

Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? The Incan Trail in Peru

 

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? Jesus. He would be extremely interesting to have a conversation with and would be extremely supportive for 26.2 miles.  

 

What was you most memorable marathon and why? Big Sur. The scenery was gorgeous and I actually PR’d the race even though I’m not fast.

 

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Tybee Island Marathon in Georgia

 

What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? Whidbey Island in Washington

 

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? Yes, they do.

Most of them think I’m crazy or a maniac. I’m always called the energizer bunny by my closest friends so they are not surprised. One of my veterinary colleagues told me “that kind of thing will kill you.”

 

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? Six

 

From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? Big Sur  

 

Where do you keep your finisher medals? On my mirror in my bedroom but soon to go into the computer room

 

 Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? The only ones I run in are from the Hops and  Liberty  Challenge in Tampa. Both are cool max and very comfortable. The other shirts hang in my closet or are given to charity.

 

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it?  I would do it  in a South Anerican cloud forest .

What is your favorite pre race meal? Post race meal? Seafood as a pre race meal and pasta or breakfast as  post race meal.

 

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? Cliff shot Razz Sorbet and Powerade Arctic Shatter or Watermelon Gatorade

 

Which race would you never run again and why? Las Vegas marathon-very poor organization when I ran it.

 

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Grandfather mountain-very hilly, warm temp. I suspect  Pikes Peak to be more challenging.

 

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? Two 4-5 milers, Two 6-10 milers , and then a long run, 10-20 miles, on Sat or Sunday.Sometimes I ride my mountain bike to cross train or hike.

 

Do you have a training partner? If so, who is it? My boyfriend runs with me sometimes but usually he’s way ahead of me.

 

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? Saucony Omni. No, I don’t race in a different shoe.

 

What are your short-term running goals? Train well for Pikes Peak and not get injured.

 

What are your long-term running goals? Finish all 50 states.

 

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? Hike, bird watch, shell, mountain bike, travel, read …
