What was the first race you ever ran? In grade school
What was the first marathon you ever ran? Marine Corp
What year did you run it? 2005
Did you have fun that day? Of course a feeling you will never forget
How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? I ran in grade school through my first year in college then I quit to have my son. That was in 1987 and I did not run again until 2005.
Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Because some of my running buddies were doing it (Marv #393 and Dave #394)
Or what inspired you? My friends
Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? Any I just like running and seeing new places.
If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My grandma, she would be so amazed that I was doing this!
What was you most memorable marathon and why? The Marine Corp marathon because it was my 1st.
If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? Well out of the 12 that I have ran I would have to say Fargo. However, once I have ran more I am sure my answer will change.
What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? 1460 miles, for the San Diego Rock n’ Roll marathon.
Do any of your non-running friends or family members think that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? I am sure they do. However, most know I do it to keep sane. What are some of their comments to you? “You’re running how far?”, “And you do this for pleasure?”
My personal favorite comment was, “I could drive to Dallas when the race starts and meet you at the finish line.”
If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year? A LOT!!! At least one a month if not every other week.
From what race did you receive your favorite finishers medal? Little Rock, AR
Where do you keep your finisher medals? Right now they are on my dresser mirror but soon I will run out of space.
Do you wear your race t-shirts? The tech shirts I do. What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? My son gets them.
If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? Yosemite National Park or the Grand Canyon.
Maniac Yellow, or Maniac Black? Yellow but actually I have both!!
What is your favorite pre race meal? Baked Potato. Post race meal? Hamburger and French fries.
What is your energy gel of choice? None. Sport drink of choice? Water
Which race would you never run again and why? Atlanta because it was totally disorganized.
What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Marine Corp, because it was my first one and you had to get to mile 20 (which is the bridge) in a certain amount of time and it being my first I was not sure I would make it!
What is a typical training week like for you? Run 3 – 4 days a week. How many miles do you run? 3-6 on short days and 10 – 20 on long days. But lately my marathons have been my long runs so I guess 26.2 . Any cross training? Some not much. Plan to do more soon.
Do you have a training partner? Yes. If so, who is it? A whole group of people from Runner’s World in Tulsa and from www.tatur.org.
What kind of shoes do you train in? Mizuno Wave Riders. Do you race in a different shoe? No.
What are your short-term running goals? To finish the next long training run which is St. Jude’s Marathon.
What are your long-term running goals? To get a higher level of maniac, run in all 50 + 1 states, and to do an ultra.
Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? Run, hang out and I am beginning to think I am a life-long student.
