Unfortunately our
Roving Seattle Marathon Maniac Photographer never made it out of bed on this
cold, soggy Thanksgiving Sunday morning. He missed out on all of the fun. A whopping 60+ Marathon Maniacs and a few
Maniac Half-Marathoners ventured out on the streets of Seattle, revellng in the
holiday spirit. They were determined to beat the odds of not letting rain,
sleet, nor snow stop them from accomplishing their main goal…finishing another
marathon to add to their already coveted statistics! Enjoy the photographs below, but please remember that the Prez is
truly just a rookie when it comes to digital photography. Some of you may be
blurry…maybe its because you're all too fast!

New Members for the Month of November
11/02 - Daniel Uhlanhake #373 (Celina, Ohio): Daniel is initiated as a 4 star (Iridium) Maniac by virtue of having done the Breakers/Mystic Country double in late October. So far he has run 7 marathons in 2006, with 40 marathon completions in 38 states and DC.
11/02 - Margaret Barrett #374
(Steilacoom, Washington): With the completion of the Yakima River, Vancouver
and Capital City Marathon, Margaret became eligible to be a member of the
Insane Asylum, at Bronze level. She has 14 marathon finishes to her credit and
while she has not yet done an ultra, she has been a member of 10 Hood-to-Coast
Relay teams.
11/03 - Anna Conner #375 (Puyallup,
Washington): Due to childbirth, Anna has not run a marathon so far this year.
However in 2005, she ran the Yakima River Canyon and Boston Marathons (2 in 3
weeks) to qualify for Bronze Maniac induction. She has run marathons in 3
states with a lifetime total of 6. Best
of all, Anna's Maniac Membership was a surprise from her Mom!
11/03 - Ed Indvik #376 (Newport Beach, California): In October, Ed ran the Portland and Long Beach Marathons to qualify for Bronze Maniac Membership.
He has been running since the age of 8 and enjoys all
aspects of running, especially the training, the people and most of all, the
events.
11/06 - Michael Goolkasian #377 (Ipswich, Massachusetts): We missed (or maybe some of us Northwesterners met up with him) Michael when he flew all the way from Massachusetts to run in Bob and Lenore Dolphin's Yakima River Canyon Marathon. He must've seen all of those yellow singlets and said to himself…I belong in that group! Inducted as a Gold Maniac (12 states in one year) he recently completed the back to back marathons at Oklahoma and Route 66 to move up to Iridium status. How's that for fast action!

Michael (377)
Goolkasian Joseph (381) Poliquin
(with Bekkie Wright) Natalia
(397) Norman Laurie (406) Cleveland
11/07 - Ralph Meyer #378 (Portage, Michigan): Ralph was on quite a roll a few weeks back, having completed the Chicago, Grand Rapids and Chicago Marathons in rapid succession to qualify for Silver Maniac status. He's done 20 marathons in 6 states and was in such a rush to get his application in that all he had to say at the end was…Gotta run!
11/09 - Warren D'Rozario #379 (Birmingham, United Kingdom): Another member from the United Kingdom and friends of Bob and Lenore Dolphin and Roger Biggs, Warren is a mega-marathoner, having done 35 so far this year to qualify as an 6-star (Osmium) Maniac. Also a member of the 100 marathon club of Great Britain, Warren has amassed a total of 166 marathons in 12 states. If you're looking to run 3 marathons in 3 days other than the Tahoe Triple, Warren has done just that. Of course you'll have to fly to Great Britain where at the end of October you can participate in the Beachy Head, followed by the Snowdonia Marathon in Wales and a short ferry ride to Dublin, Ireland for the last of the trio. And Warren is planning on coming to the Marathon Maniac reunion at Yakima in 2007, so let's all be there to greet him.
11/16 - Michael Fox #380 (South Orange, New Jersey): Michael is doing his best imitation of Forrest Gump, having run 4 marathons in the last 5 weeks (Wineglass, Mount Desert Island, Marine Corps and New York City) and taking a short break before the JFK 50 miler. Whew! That's good enough for Gold Membership in the Insane Asylum. He has 14 marathons and 1 ultra completed in 8 states and DC.
The Marathon Maniacs… The Next Generation

Eric Gierke and James Steve Supkoff and Josh Susan Cheng and Terence
11/11 - Joseph Poliquin #381 (Somewhere.in Connecticut): Some of you may have thought Joe was already a Maniac due to his presence with that marvelous Maniac Bekkie Wright. He's officially in now, as a 6-star (Osmium) Maniac with his and Bekkie's odyssey of 6 marathons in 6 days. He also accompanied Bekkie back in June when they ran the Oslo and Tromso Marathons both in a single day. Like some of us, Joe didn’t have time to update his marathon, ultra and even Ironman finishes on a spreadsheet because he was too busy running, but thanks to the Maniac database, he has an actual number of 45 marathons, 14 ultras and 2 Ironmans to his credit.
11/11 - Tim Collins #382 (Vero Beach, Florida): The popular double of the New Hampshire and Maine Marathons qualifies Tim for 4 star (Iridium) status in Maniacland. His stats include 37 lifetime marathons in 19 states.
11/11 - Gina Sheets #383 (Frankfort,
Indiana): Gina first saw some Maniacs at the Deadwood-Mickelson Marathon and
knew someday that she wanted to obtain membership in the club. While she was a "sprinter" in high
school, she graduated to longer distances and now enjoys 50 milers! Her 3 in 3
month streak includes races longer than the marathon distance (8 hour Howl at
the Moon Ultra, North Country 50 miler and the OPSF 50 km). Her 10 total races
have been run in 8 states.
11/11 - Dick Vogt #384 (Elmwood, Nebraska): Maniac recruiters…we love them. Thanks to Kevin Brosi, Craig Holcomb and Ron Knecht, they suggested to Dick that he should be a member of the Maniacs. And why not! He's an 8-star (Platinum) Maniac by virtue of running marathons in 27 states in 2005. A mathematics teacher at Nebraska Wesleyan University, his lifetime totals include 57 marathons and 5 ultras in 40 states and Germany. While he hasn't run a race since the Red Rock Fat Ass 50km in early Januray due to a serious accident while driving back home, he's almost recovered and planning on running a marathon in November. Its because he's having withdrawal symptoms!

Jenny (401) Appel and
Michelle (402) Barnes proclaim…"We're Maniacs, We're Maniacs"! Tim (409) Lawson
11/13 - Dawn Bolling #385 (Norwalk,
Connecticut): Dawn is a Silver Maniac by having run 3 marathons in 3 weeks.
Having started running marathons in 2003, Dawn has completed 13 since then in 3
states.
11/15 - Etienne Jaulin #386 (Richmond, Virginia): Having recently completed
the Marine Corps and the Richmond Marathons (which were his second and third
lifetime marathons) qualified Etienne to join the Maniac circle as a Bronze
member. When he's not out running marathons, he's busy as an Executive chef at
one of Richmond's finest restaurants.
.
11/15 - Bill Doernbach #387 (Gaithersburg, Maryland): Back in 2003, Bill ran the Chicago, Baltimore, Marine Corps and New York City Marathons in succession to get to 4 star (Iridium) status in the Insane Asylum. He started running marathons in 2001 at the age of 48 and has since completed 18 marathons in 10 states and DC.
11/19 - Edzel Quicksilver-Runner
Cabanero #388 (San Diego, California): Another 4 star (Iridium) Maniac by
virtue of completing 4 marathons in 20 days. While Quicksilver-Runner is pretty
new to running marathons, he plans on notching 8 this year. After his first
anniversary of running, he would like to aim for the 50 marathons in 50 states
goal. Please check out his blogspot: http://quicksilver-runner.blogspot.com/

Adrienne
(403) Stipe Cliff
(410) Richards
11/19 - David Bates #389 (Houlton, Maine): A runner since 2003, David recently completed the Breakers Marathon and Cape Cod Marathons to qualify for Bronze Maniac membership. He has 6 lifetime marathons to his credit in 4 states.
11/19 - Donna Gering #390 (Ironwood,
Michigan): Donna has run quite a few marathons (48) and 2 ultras (in 9 states
and DC) in her lifetime and this past October ran in the Twin Cities and
Whistlestop Marathons to be inducted as a Bronze member in the Insane
Asylum. She has run 5 marathons so far
in 2006.
11/19 - Gary Engstrom #391 (Ironwood, Michigan): Is it misery loves company or just wanting to get "punished" together? Since Maniac #390 and Gary are running partners and their families run and travel together to marathons, she enrolled him into Maniacdom as a birthday present (He turns 60). Having run 6 marathons in 6 months qualifies him as a Silver Maniac. Here are some of Gary's amazing stats: Since December 30, 1989, he has not missed a day of running, 150 lifetime marathon and ultramarathon completions and has run a whopping 58,525 miles in his lifetime.
11/19 - Tamara Mackey #392 (Seattle, Washington): Tamara qualified for Bronze Maniac membership by having run 3 marathons/ultras in 3 months (Grizzly, Endurance 50 at Seafair and the New York City Marathons). She has two other marathon completions and is truly looking forward to her next marathon, which happens to be in Honolulu.
11/20 - Marv "the Commissioner" Winters #393 (Tulsa, Oklahoma):
While "the Commissioner" has been running since 1979 and has 32
marathon completions in 15 states, he would've had a lot more had he not suffered
a heart attack that put him out of "commission" from 1995 to
2005. His streak of 3 in 3 months
included the following marathons: Pocatello, Kansas City and Route 66. So Marv,
that makes you a Bronze Maniac, and yes, with a capital "M"!
All
smiles after the Seattle Marathon

Pam Brulotte and Gary Otheim Michael Shiach Fenny
Roberts and Jim Scheer
11/20 - David "Fat Man" Anderson #394
(Tulsa, Oklahoma): Since "the Commissioner #393" got him started in
this ungodly pursuit, "Fat Man" thought it best to follow in his
footsteps by submitting his application for Maniacism. With his recent finishes
at New York City and the Route 66 Marathons, David qualifies as a Bronze
Maniac. He has completed 6 marathons in 5 states.
11/20 - Debby Graham #395 (Spokane, Washington): Debby and her running
partner Kay just completed the Portland and Spokane Marathons to qualify for
Bronze Maniac induction. They say they aren't in any hurry in their races but
they sure do love to run! She has 15 lifetime marathon completions in 4 states
and Canada.
11/20 - Kay Reynolds #396 (Deer Park,
Washington): Kay and her running partner Debby just completed the Portland and
Spokane Marathons to qualify for Bronze Maniac induction. They say they aren't in any hurry in their
races but they sure do love to run. Unlike Debby, she is a little more insane
because she has 26 marathons under her belt, in 4 states and Canada.
11/21 - Natalia Norman #397 (Newport Beach, California):
Natalia had her best streak in 2004 with 4 marathon/ultra finishes in 4 months
(Los Angeles, San Gabriel 50km, Palos Verdes and the Holcomb Valley 33 miler).
Besides the 4 races already mentioned, she has 3 other marathons and 1 other
ultra completions, in 2 states. Due to
injuries, she hasn't completed any this year but her next projected run will be
the High Desert 50km in December. Be
sure to check out her blogspot. http://ultrachick.blogspot.com

Little Leslie Miller Bruce Quam, Marilou Russell and Dave Conger Larry Macon
11/22 - Deborah Ingram #398 (Gainesville,
Florida): Deborah qualified for Silver maniac membership by having done 6
marathons in 6 months, starting with the super hard Estes Park marathon in June
and finishing with the Inaugural Outer banks Marathon in November. She has run
10 marathons in 2006, and her lifetime totals are 14 marathons in 14 states.
11/22 - Craig Swanson #399 (Plymouth,
Minnesota): Another one of those megamarathoners, Craig has almost reached the
penultimate of Maniac achievement, by having qualified as an 8 star (Platinum)
Maniac by virtue of having run in 26 states in a year. He says he will go for
top level and nothing will get in his way. His lifetime totals include
finishing 120 marathons and ultras. So far in 2006 he has done 30 and back in
2005 he completed the 50-state circuit.
11/25 - Andrew Larpenteur #400 (Federal Way,
Washington): Andrew's marathon running goes back at least 10 years as he
qualified for the 100th Boston Marathon at the now-defunct Clakamas
River Marathon. He qualified for Bronze level membership by running in the UWR
and Ghost of Seattle Marathons.
He has completed 16 marathons and enjoys other endeavors such as triathlons, long swims and the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic.
11/26 - Jenny Appel #401 (Puyallup,
Washington): Jenny is truly a happy camper, having qualified for Bronze
Maniacism in her first 3 marathons (Portland, UWR and Seattle). She completed
two of those with new Maniac #402 (mentioned below), so naturally they
requested to have consecutive Maniac numbers.
11/26 - Michelle Barnes #402 (Puyallup,
Washington): Proud to finally say "I'm a Maniac" Michelle along with
Maniac #153 (Eric Barnes) are the latest wife and husband Maniac couple. Michelle ran the same three marathons as
Maniac #401, they worked on becoming Maniacs together so they will be forever
etched in Maniac lore next to each other.
Rick "Pole" Smith Lenore and Bob Dolphin with Eric
Barnes Hope Fox and Christie Hayes
11/26 - Adrienne Stipe #403 (Grapevine, Texas):
Adrienne's is a Bronze Maniac by completing 5 marathons in 5 months (Ironman
Florida, Dallas White Rock, Houston, Austin and the Bataan Memorial Death
March). She has completed 15 marathons
in 7 states.
11/26 - Barefoot Chris Runyan #404 (Bellingham, Washington): Another
"Barefoot" runner to add to the Maniac clan, Chris had just completed
the Seattle Marathon, as well as the Portland and Baker Lake 50km to fulfill
the Bronze requirement of 3 in 3 months.
He has run a total of 9 marathons and ultras in 3 states.
11/26 - Corinne Austerman #405 (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada): Corinne has
completed at least one marathon since 1995 and is still going strong with 19
total marathons and 5 ultras. With her
recent finish at the Seattle Marathon, she has finished 10 so far in 2006,
making her a Silver Maniac. Her
beginning years favored marathons but now she enjoys a mix of marathons and
50km - 50 mile races.
11/27 - Laurie Dent-Cleveland #406 (Bonney Lake, Washington): Laurie's
first marathon was back in 1999 (San Antonio) and she resumed running the
longer distances again this year, beginning with the Chuckanut 50km and then
achieving her best streak of 3 in 3 months (Portland, Tri-Cities and Seattle).
When not running marathons, she enjoys participating in triathlons and shorter
road races.
11/27 - Mark Cook #407 (Clinton, Washington):
Like some of the Maniacs, Mark's first marathon was back in 1992, then took a
long break of nearly 10 years to resume what he truly enjoys, running 3
marathons in 3 months (Easter, Whidbey Island and Capital City in 2002). He has
run one other marathon since that time.
When not busy
cruising the roads of picturesque Whidbey Island, he is an Area Director of the
Whidbey Island Young Life group.

Gail "Detour Phillips" and Bret
"FatBoyee" Henry "srlopez", a
pregnant Tiptoes, sLuG and Amanda Cohn
11/28 - Thomas "T.O." Okazaki #408 (Southlake, Texas): A friend of 50 in 50 in 50 Sam Thompson, and a current member of the Lake Grapevine Runners,
"T.O." recently performed a Maniacal feat by running back to back marathons two consecutive weekends (Rockledge Rumble, San Antonio, Oklahoma and Route 66). With the 4 marathons in 9 days, that makes him a 5 star (Ruthenium) Maniac. T.O. has completed 21 marathons and 7 ultras in his lifetime.
11/28 - Tim Lawson #409 (Tigard, Oregon): Speaking of Maniacal feats, this is Tim's first year of running marathons and just last weekend completed the back-to back tandem of the Ghost of Seattle and Seattle Marathons. While he may only have 4 marathon finishes, his other two were the Autumn Leaves 50km and back in late April-early May participated in the Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendance 6 day race in which he completed 285 miles. It may not seem fair, but he's only a 4 star (Iridium) Maniac, with his 2 marathons in 2 days.
11/29 - Cliff Richards #410 (Maple Valley, Washington): Another member of the "famed, the fast and the furious" Maple Valley Runners, Cliff has enjoyed a stellar running career, with practically all of his marathon finishes at sub 3-hours. A recent winner of the Tri-Cities Marathon, he also has the dubious honor of being the brother-in-law of the one and only "Pigtails". With finishes at the Skagit Flats, Portland , Tri-Cities and Seattle Marathons, Cliff qualifies for Bronze level in the Insane Asylum. He has run 21 lifetime marathons.
11/30 - Emma Riconda #411
(Northport, New York): Once again the "Rev" has come through in the
clutch, getting Emma hooked on marathoning and suggesting that she happily
apply for membership in the Insane Asylum. By running the Wineglass, Marine
Corps and New York City Marathons, Emma has met the Maniac requirements for
Bronze level. Her lifetime totals
include 8 marathons in 4 states and DC.

Rhetorical Revelations and W(Rites)…from
the Rambunctious Rev
To Three of the Wiser Men I Know, Stevie Yee, Chris Kringle, and Sir Tony,
Merry Christmas! Of all the people on the planet, I figure YOU more than anybody could take over Santa’s gig. You cover distances I can’t imagine. You do it all over again as soon as the opportunity arises. You never complain, you’re always smiling, you fly everywhere, give of yourself at the events, take pictures with everybody, why, all you lack are the beards and the bellies, and near as I can tell, neither are essential parts of the job. Some pretty interesting array of elves you’ve got working for you too. I like this SRLopez fella…scouting around getting us discounts. North Pole goes Big Business – a little leveraging-- now we’re thinking. He gets a couple of good hits, and Bingo! presents for everybody. Thank that crafty elf next time you see him for me, will you?
Then I see we’ve added a helper, Mr. Marc, on the record-keeping end of things. Tony must be thanking his lucky Bethlehem stars for that, eh? Poor fellow was losing what weight a triathlete’s got left punching up everyone’s numbers, the way our roster is growing.
I like your version of advertising how much fun it is to run marathons…putting our Craziest Elf on the front page of the web-site, the happy, inspiring, smiling Sam Thompson, the First to click off 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days. Man, he HAS to be an elf. You try getting around the country that fast without borrowing the reindeer. (Little known fact: Using reindeer for summer vacations is in the Elf Benefits Package.)

Steevyee, your arranging with ol’ Santa to bring Annie Thiessen back from premature retirement, and with a First Place Finish in her First Finish, why, there is no story like that in all of professional sports this year, is there? And Engle, accumulating more firsts this year than most of us have finishes? We’ve got a Who’s Who wish list that makes a mini-maniac’s belly jiggle with a giggle, thinking how funny it is that you created criteria that lets the likes of me in here (two marathons in two weeks; what is that, a warm-up idea for you guys?).
You may even have two advisors to the Great Red-Coated One Himself in our club. Bob and Lenore Dolphin, what work they put in, decking the halls and preparing to hold yet another Yakima River Marathon this year, and including the MarathonManiacs 2007 Reunion on the schedule. Its beginning to look a lot like half the club might be there! If your membership number is greater than, 100 or so, and you’d like to get a handle on this new fraternity of runners you’ve joined and meet some Maniacs, then tell your best friend that, by golly, you do want something for Christmas: you want to go for a bit of a March run in a Sea of Yellow in the great Northwest Wonderland.
Well, Messer’s. Yee, Warren, and Phillipi, and the other angels you’ve gathered around you that make this club sing No Quit: Chestnuts all around! and the warmest Thank You, really. It is hard to express if fully, but
On the night before Christmas, in 2001,
I thought I’d run a marathon, but only just one.
Not once did I ever imagine, not all through that night,
The friendships, the laughter, and the joy you’d bring to light.
So if you’ll please, beg ol’ Santa to send four more bags of ice,
So I can chase you, and chase you, and chase you again, too nice..…
How Cold was it in Seattle???
