Uli Steidl won the 17th annual Western Washington Recover from the Holidays Fat Ass 50Km Run with a time of 5:00. Van Phan for the third year in a row led the women’s 50Km with a 6:18. Michael Sanders led the one loop, 25Km runners, with a 2:19 and Rachel Beckmann was the first 25Km woman in 2:42.
105 runners started this “non-event.” 18 runners did the two loop 50Km course and three runners completed the original course, now considered 55Km. Their course consisted of an out and back to the Snoqualmie Falls overlook via the Preston Bike Path plus one mountain loop.
Tiger Mountain had hard rain just before the start, snow on top and it seemed like mud everywhere, which is generally expected for a Western Washington winter run.
Lynn Yarnall and Cheri Pompeo headed up the group that marked the course using old Christmas ornaments and ribbons, a tradition of the Western Washington Fat Ass Run. The markings seemed especially appropriate in the snow covered portions of the course.
Ray Gruenewald made his yearly donation of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for post run refreshments, another tradition of the Western Washington Fat Ass Runs.
Thanks to all that turned out for the 17th Annual Western Washington FA. These runs have become a special and unique way of welcoming the New Running Year!
